Meetings Meetings are convened two or three times a year. They are usually held in London but, if appropriate, they may be held elsewhere and it has been customary to arrange a summer visit to an outdoor site, museum or building of historical interest. Next Meeting including the AGM will be held at the RCVS, Horseferry Road, London on Wednesday 24th November 2010.
The recent meeting in Newmarket, a part of the country where a large proportion of our members are based, was considered one of our most successful meetings. After a morning of a variety of interesting papers, our host Richard Greenwood showed us round the magnificent Newmarket Equine Hospital - a considerable advance on our ideas of a 'veterinary hospital'. The contrast was confirmed by visiting his old, empty, practice premises on the High Street. The remainder of our time in Newmarket was arranged by our Chairman Tim Cox, curator of the exhibition 'Thoroughbred - State of the Art' in the Newmarket Museum, which we visited after a private tour through the Jockey Club led by David Oldrey. Tim also took us into Charles I's Palace House and stable blocks, due for redevelopment to include centres for the British Sporting Art Trust and the Retraining of Racehorses Trust. And the weather was beautiful!
We visited Copenhagen for a two-day, joint programme with the Danish Veterinary History Society on Wednesday/Thursday 23/24 April 2008. For further details of meetings and visits, email the secretary from the Contacts page. |
